WMC and Coachella Announce 2009 Dates

Winter Music Conference and Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival have announced their 2009 dates. Winter Music Conference (WMC) will bring dance music to the sunny, golden beaches of South Beach and Miami on Tuesday, March 24th through Saturday, March 28th. Coachella will take place Friday, April 17th through Sunday, April 19th at the breathtakingly beautiful Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA. These are the same grounds where Coachella debuted in 1999.

While more details aren't available as of yet for Coachella, the official WMC website has posted early registration sign ups for the Conference. Expect hotels to start filling up around South Florida in the coming weeks so make those reservations as early as possible. Last year's Coachella festival featured such acts as Prince, Roger Waters, Kraftwerk, Portishead, and Aphex Twin. The 2008 Winter Music Conference featured 2,211 artists and DJs in over 537 total events presented across the greater Miami area. Founded in 1985 as a platform for the advancement of the music industry, the WMC program includes seminars, meetings, receptions and parties throughout the week with personalities and innovators from all aspects of the business worldwide. Pay close attention as the weeks near 2009 for additional info on these two festivals.

Annagrace - You Make Me Feel (Official Video)

AnnaGrace is a belgian dance project made up of singer, Annemie Coenen and the producer, Peter Luts that has been active since June 2008. Coenen and Luts had been members of dance project Ian Van Dahl from 2000/2001 until January 2008.

On June 23rd Annagrace released their first single You Make Me Feel as a Vinyl in Belgium, which quickly reached the top of the Belgian dance chart. Their first studio album is to be released in autumn 2008.

Tiësto at special Dance4Life Fundraiser 29 November 2008 at the Sand, Amsterdam

For the first time in history, Dance4Life organizes a fundraiser with Tiësto as the main act. Tiësto will be supported by Dutch DJs Sied van Riel, Leon Bolier, Joop and MC Gunner.

The youth that took part in Dance4Life’s schools project will have already witnessed Tiësto performing for them that afternoon at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, where he will be the closing act of the Dance4Life Event 2008. This event is the big finale of Schools4Life, and is only accessible for students who earned their ticket by participating in the Schools4Life project.

The Dance4Life Fundraiser at the Sand gives access to 3300 visitors. All profits of the ticket sales will go to Dance4Life. Tickets are available through PayLogic and Primera stores and will cost € 50,- (ex fee). Pre sale starts next Thursday.

Menno Solo

On Saturday November 8th 2008, Menno de Jong presents his first solo performance. The sound of Menno will fill the “Westerunie” in Amsterdam the whole night. With his first solo performance Menno takes control of the dj booth with an exclusively long DJ set…

Even when Menno was at a very young age he was already extremely into music. At a very young age he was already practicing with his turntables for hours and hours. All this practicing has led to where he stands today. He started in local clubs, but nowadays he travels to all kinds of places around the globe and even spins his records at the greatest festivals in the world such as Mysteryland. Tracks of Menno are frequently played on Armin van Buurens successful radio show called ‘A State Of Trance’.

His own company, Intuition Recordings, has contributed to the fact that Menno can see himself as a young and respected producer, dj and businessman. The events division of the company, Intuition Events, has organized the Intuition Summer-and Winter Festivals four times already. These parties were a stunning success. Intuition is also known for another popular concept, called Intuition Invites. For this concept, internationally known DJ’s are invited to join Menno de Jong to fill the night with trance and progressive tunes. Umek and Fergie - Gatex EP

Umek returns with the second release on his newly formed Sixteenofive imprint. The debut release saw VoRr deliver a devilishly driving EP 'Outlaws'.

They don't come much noisier, nastier or more in your face than Gatex, and it was this, matched with the fact that it is a true masterpiece, that saw the track gain massive support right across the board with techno and trance DJ's all throwing it down in their sets. The track is also beatless, which made it the ultimate tool for the discerning DJ.

Originally released on Magik Muzik, it is now back where it belongs, with Umek. The original mix package was a trance DJ's delight, with mixes from Tiesto, Oliver Lieb and DJ Montana but to celebrate the return, Umek has taken a different route and drafted in a remixer who is in a terrifically rich vein of form right now. Frankie Knuckles recovering after Leg Amputation

Frankie Knuckles, a DJ who inspired millions of people to dance to house music, has had to have his leg amputated due to complications from diabetes.

Reports on the web suggest that the DJ otherwise known as the ‘godfather of house’ is in recovery after the operation, and messages of support from fans are being posted on forums as you read this.

One message from a fan read: “I can literally remember exact moments on the dance floor, what was playing, who I was dancing with, and yes, what I was wearing (hello).

“One such memory involves the classic Frankie Knuckles track, ‘The Whistle Song’. It was the last song of the night. Or, more specifically, it was the first song of the day. [Full Story]

Seamus Haji is a lucky guy. With over 20 years experience in the business he looks great, he has his own record label, enjoys being able to travel around the world doing international DJ dates. He is also the guy credited for pioneering the now universally acknowledged ‘electro house’ sound with ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’, as sound that totally rejuvenated house. It was also Seamus who was behind the chart success of Booty Luv, remixing their unforgettable pop smash ‘Boogie Tonight’ a track so big that that no one in dance music could hide from it! Here Seamus gives his personal insight into the world of Dance music.

How long have you been in the business for?

Well over 20 years now, I started off when I was 16 DJing at illegal warehouse parties and house parties.

I’ve been making a living from being a DJ over the last 10 years, and in the last 5 years I’ve been more professional in the studio.

You’ve always done very well as a DJ. You managed to get your profile around and played at some of the key places across the UK and Internationally. Even before ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.’

I was lucky enough to play at clubs like Back to Basics and Hard Times, back in the days when you actually had super clubs; I’m going back 12-14 years ago. The club scene in the UK was really strong back then.

A few years after that I ended up working at Slip and Slide and then working at Defected which really helped raise my profile. [Full Story]

Intuition ADE Showcase

This October the 13th edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event, the world’s biggest club festival with more than 700 DJs playing in 40 different clubs, will take place. The official opening is on Wednesday the 22nd of October and from Wednesday to Sunday several big brands and DJs will be hosting clubnights. On Saturday the 25th of October Intuition Recordings will be teaming up with The Groove Collection to host the Escape Studio and Lounge.

The big man behind the label Menno de Jong will naturally be playing the latest of the upcoming releases, as well as his usual selection of upfront trance & progressive. Leon Bolier and Sied van Riel will be playing an exclusive back 2 back set, Airbase will be closing the night in style and Kimito Lopez and Cliff Coenraad will be getting the floor shaking with their diverse styles. Lastly a special guest will be gracing the decks: Nic Chagall of Cosmic Gate.
